I remember the day it finally clicked for me. I stepped on the dreaded scale and saw that number at the highest I had ever seen. I was struggling to go up three flights of stairs at work, I had to get a seatbelt extender on airplanes, and overall, I just did not have any energy. It was like a switch went off in my head and I finally realized I needed to do something about my weight and get healthy.
So, in January of 2008 I changed my eating habits and joined a gym. I needed to learn how to eat, what to eat, how much to eat and start exercising. Eating healthy and exercising throughout that year enabled me to lose 75 pounds. In January of this year, I joined CLM in search of a personal trainer. Losing as much weight as I had, I wanted to learn how to tone my body and exercise the right way. When I joined CLM I met with personal trainer Trevor Frampton and have been working with him ever since. Working with Trevor the past 7 months and eating healthy has helped me to lose an additional 65 pounds! Trevor has pushed me to workout harder then I ever have and I can definitely see the results. He’s motivating, good at what he does, and makes me feel like I can meet my goal weight (something I never thought was possible before). It’s a lot of hard work and is definitely a change in life style but it is well worth it.
So, if I can do it, you can do it! It's your choice. I strongly encourage you to start now! It will definitely lead you to a healthier, stronger, happier life style!
I joined the Club three ago, I was part of the "crowd" that moved down from the Upper Main Line YMCA three ago.
From the moment I joined the Club I met Joe who was polite and courteous to a fault and was always ready to answer any question or to help instruct me on the proper utilization of a machine.
When I decided that I needed a personal trainer two years ago I knew I had to ask Joe to assist me in my basic needs.
I have a replacement hip joint and problems with my left shoulder. I made an excellent choice. Joe has been with me for the last two years and has helped me gain more flexibility with my hip and with my left shoulder.
He has the unique qualities of little boy enthusiasm coupled with a sincere desire to help people.
He knows how to blend all these talents together to help enhance any workout session that he has with a client.
It has been a pleasure to work with Joe and I will continue to exhaust his talents for years to come and would recommend him to any new member.

I have been training with Terri since March to get in shape for my wedding. She has been a wonderful combination of motivating and patient. She keeps things interesting with new techniques and she knows which moves will get the best results. I have lost 40 lbs. and I feel fantastic! I am ready for my wedding but most of all, I am excited about my new found fitness!

Adam Horner has custom made a program that has challenged and motivated me to stay at it for over 6 months. Adam is a professional with a thorough knowledge of nutrition, exercise and overall health. His style is encouraging and lay back, yet continues to push me to improve. I would highly recommend anyone from the novice to experienced athlete.

Last January I was the last person to join CLM’s first Biggest Loser Contest. Being significantly overweight, I really didn’t really feel in control of my eating habits. I was used to exercising regularly, but my workouts didn’t seem to be having much effect. I was paired up with Debbie Baumstein, who signed on to try and redo my exercise plan and restructure my food intake. She provided me with structured meal plans for a week at a time and reviewed my progress with them regularly, changing them when they didn’t fit my lifestyle or tastes. Debbie also changed my entire workout, focusing on muscle development and making my cardio regimen more effective. Over the next two months, I lost 15 pounds, and over 4 months, I was able to lose a total of 25 pounds. My energy level is remarkable, and I feel and look better than I did twenty years ago. Debbie was incredibly supportive and still continues to help me improve my fitness with regular workouts. She keeps the workouts fresh with new exercises each week. I definitely would recommend that CLM members consult with Debbie when they feel the need for a fresh look at their workouts or would like to kick-start a new diet.
Thank you,

Ned was one of the first to sign up for the Biggest Loser Contest! He was a serious competitor but he had some fierce competition. The contest provided motivation, supervision and accountability for many. We had 130 contestants - All watching their calorie intake, all trying to get in as many workouts as possible each week before the next weigh in. A few fell off the wagon but even with those dropping out, all together the contest encouraged the participants to lose 927 pounds as a team! Pretty amazing - That’s half a ton of unwanted weight!!
Ned's Interview:
1. Why did you enter the contest?
I had slowly been putting on a few pounds a year and suddenly I was feeling snug in my clothes and unhappy with my body. I wanted to look my best at my upcoming wedding in May. The contest was the perfect way to chart my weight loss and reach my target weight. I had planned to start a diet after a vacation over Christmas so the timing of the contest was perfect for me.
2. What do you like best about the contest?
I love the culture of the contest and how motivated I feel to try to win. The support from the staff and my peers at the gym who can see a difference. I feel better about myself, have more energy and I can wear anything in my closest again without feeling self conscious about how I look. The contest has given me the opportunity to reprogram my eating patterns and working out routine. I am making smarter decisions about my diet and I value the time I spend working our more than before. Hiring a personal trainer has been one of the best things to come from my experience. This was the first time I ever had actually paid someone to make me work out. I never needed someone to tell me to work out, I love being active and for the last five years averaged 3-5 times. The problem was without a trainer, you don't push yourself as hard and you are content with just working up a sweat. My trainer has coached me to work harder and push myself to become stronger than I have ever been before.
The money is well spent. How many of you reading this have thought to yourself - $65 dollars a training session? WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY! Admittedly, I was one of those people too - now I am a believer. Food for thought - a trainer in NYC will set you back $150 an hour - MINIMUM! CLM prices are a bargain. Nevertheless, $65 is not a bargain for most of us - it is an expense. But feeling good about yourself and getting the most out of your work outs -- that is priceless.
3. What do you like the least?
I gave up several of my favorite foods & alcohol. I don't love not being able to eat anything I want when I go out, but I am fine with it. I have allowed myself to have one 'cheat' meal a week where I don't restrict myself to my eating plan which is high protein, low carb, low fat.
4. Any tips for those out there struggling a little?
Buy yourself a new pair of sneakers --- nothing like a new pair of sneakers to make you enjoy working out a little more. Spend the money on a trainer - even if it's only for a few sessions. I promise you will feel even better after an hour training session.
Don't hide if you are afraid you didn't lose any weight. Make your daily work out a priority --- no matter what. Set aside the time daily to work out, you will feel better as a result of keeping the routine.
5. Are you going to have a cheat meal as soon as this is over? If so, what will it be?
YES! The day after my final weigh in, I am taking my fiancée to a nice steak dinner at Shulas 347 in West Conshohocken.
6. Is there anything in particular you learned about yourself while participating in this contest?
I have learned to look at what I eat not as "being on a diet" but not as a life style. The healthier a life style you live, the more freedom it permits you to have a few indulgences. However, if your indulgences become routine, and become part of your every day without some balance - in my case - food & wine - you will probably not appreciate them when you have them and consume more on a daily basis than you should if you want to maintain your body weight.
Cheers,
Ned
