The benefits of Pilates are many. Some of our clients come to Pilates to incorporate core strength into their cardio routines, while others want the lean muscles but not the bulk. Both men and women are benefiting from Pilates and many are experiencing dramatic back and shoulder pain relief.

If you haven't tried Pilates don't be fooled into thinking that Pilates is easy. Many people make this mistake and cheat themselves out of benefiting from a form of exercise that can literally transform their body.

Celebrities, dancers, performers and athletes have been doing Pilates for years now because of the way Pilates builds core strength. Of the many benefits of Pilates, core strength alone is attributed to the prevention of injury while performing or doing sports. There is no other fitness routine that can accomplish this.

My name is Joyce Ross and I am so pleased that Val showed me through Feldenkrais that I can lift my right arm. I had two rotator cuff surgeries and both did not work, so I couldn't lift my arm. I have attended Val Grant's Feldendrais classes and have been a "student" of hers several times. It seems so simple and the movements so minor that the benefits may not be great. But, after a few sessions and doing the movements at home, I realize how beneficial these "simple" movements are. As I age and stiffness and soreness increases, I feel that Feldendrais helps improve my ability to move with less effort and less pain.

I do hope this can be added to La Maison's schedule.

I have known Val for over 10 years and have taken many yoga and Pilates classes with her. Recently, she has introduced me to the benefits of Feldenkrais. I have scheduled to have hip surgery tomorrow and am looking forward to making Feldenkrais a part of my rehab...probably starting in September.

Years of "managing" hip arthritis has taken its toll on the rest of my body. I have developed bad habits and need to start correcting all this. Pilates helps tremendously, but adding Feldenkrais will be so important. It truly helps align the body by getting you to use your muscles/ligaments in the way they are meant to be used. It is painless, relaxing and it works...a great addition to any exercise routine.

I've had a few sessions with Val. They've been helpful - funny that such small movements can effect change and improvement. Depending on cost & class time, I could be interested in more sessions. Carol

I had one session with Valerie, really can't remember how long ago exactly. Don't quite understand how it works but I do know it does work!

My hip pain has been gone and only recently came back slightly due to too much gardening. Would like to have another session.

I have been receiving Feldenkrais from Valerie Grant for the last few months due to back issues which are caused by Charcot foot, a deterioration of the arch. The treatment has been beneficial and I do not know of any other location that offer this and would like to continue.

Have had 3 sessions with Valerie. I find her extremely thorough, caring and competent. I have many issues and Val is dealing with them so well. I do feel a bit better and am more aware of my positioning and my stance. Highly recommend Val to start a practice at the club.

Although I have difficulty pronouncing this new technique and wonder what it could possibly do while I am working within a session - for some reason, it does work. Still recovering from a hip replacement six months ago, I thought I would give it a try to help some aches and pains throughout my body. Quickly, Val noticed my right shoulder was much lower and turned inward. Interesting observation, as that was a major source of discomfort. After putting my arms and shoulders through a few moves, I went along my way only to realize the next day that my shoulder was now in line with the opposite side. Although I still have a bit ofdiscomfort, it seems to have settled. I think it is time to go for a few more sessions...

I truly enjoyed the Feldenkrais session that we had together. It was amazing that the tiny little movements led to such a deep sense of relaxation and almost and altered state of consciousness.

People in our age bracket and younger, spend very little time "in their bodies" and most of the time they are "in their heads." With the aging process and all the Yang type of movement and sports...it is really time for everyone to startbeing more cognizant of their bodies and the healing and support that they need. and /or will be needing....prophylactic and preventative.

It is a crazy place and pace in which we live....and I find it all the more healing to slow down and really get into my body. Your work does JUST that!!! and in such a great, safe, supportive fashion. Although I do not have great injuries, I felt like I had completed a 2 hour massage and a few shots of Botox and filler when I looked in the mirror....Somehow those tiny movements took me back in time...and here I am ,left, and wanting more of what it is you have to offer!!!!!

I will be looking forward to having another session and also taking a class.....and learning how to heal myself in conjunction with your guidance.

This is a great adjunct to the working out at CLM to counter the yang with a little YIN type of care.....a great combination ....and one that will be more and more valuable as people are exposed to it. They will get how the combination can further their fitness and mental heath to achieve their goals!

I am fascinated by Feldenkrais and I am SO much more aware of how my body is when lying down in corpse pose in yoga, for example. I have found myself checking how each side feels related to the other side, how my hands relax, etc. I still don't understand how it works but I have definitely noticed a difference. I think it is a definite advantage for people to include Feldenkrais into their plan for better health and well-being. You are still as awesome as you were when I first met you and I am thrilled to be reconnected with you AND Club la Maison.....still the best club on the Main Line (in my humble opinion!). I'll see you soon!

I continue to be amazed by the affects from such simple movements and visualizations!

I am in my second round of Feldenkrais sessions with Valerie, and have come to appreciate both the method and Valerie as its therapist. She is thoughtful, thorough, delightful and successful. In the space of one session she can lower my head from three pillows (the result of a very stiff neck) to almost flat. Quite an accomplishment. Thanks, Val.

Val was fantastic and I loved the session she provided, will refer others (already have actually!).

My testimonial!!! That is sure the way to relax. Val found a lot of oddities in my body that I did not recognize even though I always thought I was pretty conscious of my body parts. The most interesting thing was a very clear and precise visualization and memory that I had of my sister twisting my arm up my back. Val had very gently manipulated my arm and certainly had no way hurt me but all of a sudden, I was right there being tortured by my sister. I certainly left the session with a more precise and intimate knowledge of some weaknesses and strengths. Many thanks, Val!!!

I don't think I had a chance to e-mail you yet to let you know what I told you in person that I loved our session and recommended you and your work to others.

Trevor has been raving about Feldenkrais for some time and I finally caught up with him the other day and mentioned that I finally received a sample session. We discussed it and laughed together at our mutual inconsistencies. I also mentioned that since the session I was reminded to remind my students that whenever they sit cross-legged try sitting with the other foot in front or on top, something I taught years ago but had "forgotten" to include of late.

For me, frankly it felt wonderful to relax and be guided and that I did very much. But , I certainly also become more aware of habitual patterns and imbalances, so it was a learning experience about my own body as well as a taste of Feldenkrais, something I had known about for decades but never experienced.

I would recommend you without hesitation to anyone as you were the right blend of nurturing and providing information that I feel is very important. I admire the requisite patience you demonstrated in assessing so carefully.

Val -- Thank you again so much for this complimentary session and I wish you continued success and satisfaction as you move forward with Feldenkrais. Thank you for the articles too.
