How Should I Prepare For Aquatics Class?

While preparing to exercise in the pool seems simple, we have a few tips that will properly prepare you to maximize your results.

Before you arrive, you should snack on food high in protein and carbohydrates. You need to provide some energy to your body prior to class so your energy does not deplete during class. When you exercise on an empty stomach, your first thought after an intensive workout is to eat. However, if you give your body the energy it needs beforehand, you will be more effective in your long-term goals.

Yes, you are exercising in water. But, you need to drink some water, too. Drink water before coming to class so you are fully hydrated prior to stepping in the pool, then bring a bottle so you stay hydrated during class.

Can I Do More Exercises In The Water?

Water buoyancy contributes to aquatic class’ impact on joints and abdominal muscles. Because we only weigh 15 percent of our body mass while in the water, we have more ability to move freely than we do on land. As a result, we can complete more exercises that seem too difficult to perform on land.

By performing routines in the water, your joints feel far less pressure than they would on land. The water is a cushion for your joints, so you feel reduced stress on your ligaments, tendons and joints. Additionally, working out in the water equates to working out your abdominal muscles. Your abs tighten to keep your position in the pool, so those core muscles get worked for the duration of the class!
